MAYOR'S MESSAGE - DECEMBER 1, 2004
As we approach winter , I hope all McDougall residents enjoyed great summer and fall activities in our area.
Our new Official Plan and Comprehensive Zoning By-law are nearing completion with both having passed on First and Second reading at council. I would like to thank all of you who took the time either through correspondence or attendance at our public meetings to provide input. There will be a final public meeting on December 15, 2004 at 7.00 P.M. prior to the regular council meeting.
Our public works crews will be out clearing your roads for the next few months in the excellent fashion that we have come to expect from them. Please help them out by ensuring that you do not park in unauthorized areas or on our public roadways. Keep in mind that these dedicated employees are doing their best, often working long hours throughout the night, so a friendly wave and a smile would be a nice gesture if you see them.
The Environmental Assessment for the management of our garbage needs in the future is well underway. This process is extremely time consuming for staff and council even with the assistance of our consultants ( Conestoga-Rovers). However we are confident that we are on the right track to provide a 25 year solution to your needs. A new fulltime employee has been hired to share duties between the landfill and public works. If you have visited the landfill on McDougall road lately you will have seen the improvements in our operations.
We continue to move forward on meeting the new provincial guidelines for the Nobel Water System by December 2006. A new certified water system operator has been hired and we welcome him to our staff. INDUSTRY CANADA have announced their 1/3 funding of the upgrades to the water system required by the new provincial regulations. In an effort to control costs and share expertise we are going to provide water and sewage operators under contract at the Parry Sound Area Industrial Park on Woods Road. McDougall is a partner in the Park along with Carling Township and the Town Of Parry Sound. If you know of any business looking to locate in our area please contact me or our C.A.O through our municipal office. The park offers full sewer and water services and the price is certainly attractive with some lots starting at $1,000.00 an acre.
Please enjoy all the winter activities that McDougall has to offer, whether you enjoy cross country skiing, snowmobiling, skating, hiking or just sitting by the fire. Invite friends and family to the area and have a Joyous Holiday Season!
