About

The Municipality of McDougall is located in the District of Parry Sound a two hour drive north of Toronto. The Township of McDougall was originally incorporated on May 1, 1872 and was named after William McDougall , one of the Fathers of Confederation. In 2000 the merger of the Township of McDougall and the unorganized Township of Ferguson created the Municipality of McDougall .

The community of Nobel is the largest development area in the municipality, a smaller community exists at Waubamik. A majority of the land area in the municipality  is zoned  rural , we have many  waterfront areas located on Georgian Bay or on our many inland lakes and river systems.

The municipal motto is “A Great Place To Live and A Great Place To Visit”, when you have one of the best life styles you a can brag a lot. People work and visit here to enjoy our area festivals/events, lakes/rivers which provide every imaginable opportunity for outdoor activities ( golfing, skiing , ATVs, hiking, camping, fishing, cross country snowmobiling, skiing, boating, swimming, camping etc! etc!) . The Town of Parry Sound is the largest urban/ commercial centre it is only minutes away from McDougall. The Town  is host to a new  hospital, it has a growing business community with many grocery stores, all the big banks, a new Wal Mart (2007), Home Depot (2008),  there are many culture opportunities in the area supported by a performing arts centre (Stockey Centre) etc. For those who enjoy visiting the larger cities Barrie , Toronto , Sudbury and North Bay are only a comfortable 1-2 hours drive away. We say that McDougall is at the centre of the universe and  no doubt this combination of opportunities makes it A GREAT PLACE.

McDougall is a partner with the Town of Parry Sound and the Township of Seguin to promote Regional Ecomomic Business Development opportunities. Our combined seasonal and permanent population is over 34,000 people .
